| This past year was another exceptionally busy one for the Purchase Fire Department. While emergency call volume is often highlighted in annual reports, it represents only a portion of the time, effort, and dedication our volunteer members contribute in service to the community.
Over the course of the year, the department responded to a total of 727 alarms, including (13) 10-75’s (Working Structure Fires), (12) Auto Extrications, and approximately 150 motor vehicle accidents. In addition, our members handled more than 165 automatic and mutual aid responses in support of neighboring departments.
Beyond emergency operations, our volunteers devoted hundreds of hours to training, equipment maintenance, and essential administrative functions. Most importantly, they ensured continuous staffing of our all-volunteer firehouse 24 hours a day, seven days a week through our live-in/bunk-in program. This program allows qualified volunteer firefighters to reside at the firehouse, providing immediate response capability at all hours. By maintaining on-site staffing, the live-in program significantly reduces response times, enhances operational effectiveness, and strengthens overall community safety. Participants commit substantial personal time to the department, balancing emergency response, training, station duties, and professional or academic responsibilities. Their dedication is a cornerstone of our ability to deliver reliable, high-quality fire protection services not only to the residents of Purchase, but also to our neighboring communities.
We are deeply grateful for the unwavering commitment of our members and for the continued support of the Purchase community and our mutual aid partners, who stand ready to assist whenever called upon. Your ongoing support enables us to fulfill our mission of protecting lives and property. We wish you a happy, healthy, and safe New Year. |
