| Last night, several Purchase members were recognized for their actions when called Mutual Aid to Harrison.
It was a warm cloudy day in June when the Harrison Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with extrication. A box truck and a car collided head on, severely entrapping the driver of the car. The Harrison Fire Department quickly responded and began to extricate the trapped operator.
With the extrication already underway, Car 2161 requested Rescue 30 from the Purchase Fire Department for more Hurst tools & manpower to assist with the challenging rescue. Car 2412 & Rescue 30 responded and immediately went to work assisting members from the Harrison Fire Department. Knowing the extent of the extrication faced and possibility of a field amputation, members worked precisely with each cut to remove the patient. This complex operation took just over an hour. The patient was removed from the vehicle and received top pre-hospital care from the EMT’s/Paramedics at Harrison EMS. This team effort had the result all first responders work towards, a life saved.
Chief Masciola of the Harrison Fire Department awarded Assistant Chief Conte, FF Makowski, Bornstein, Nielsen, Sundquist along with members from Harrison Fire & EMS the Green Cross Award. The Green Cross Award is a symbol of recognition of those who have operated the Hurst Jaws to save a life. The Green Cross is awarded after information concerning a rescue is filed in the Official Green Cross Registry. Since the programs inception, thousands worldwide have received this prestigious honor.
On behalf of the Chiefs & Officers of the Purchase Fire Department we would like to congratulate all of the first responders for a job well done!
