Purchase, New York is a hamlet of the town/village of Harrison in Westchester County. Located 30 miles northeast of Manhattan, in close proximity to the Long Island Sound, this community has seventeenth century beginnings. A Siwanoy Indian named Sachem Pathungo handed the land over to John Harrison for the price of 40 pounds in 1695. "Harrison's Purchase" was legitimized by the provincial government of New York the following year. However, it wasn't until 1724 that the Quakers secured their foundation in Purchase as Harrison's first settlers.
Firefighting services in Purchase were provided by fire departments from surrounding communities until the Purchase Fire District was formed in 1936. The district established the Purchase Fire Department in 1938 and erected the firehouse the following year. While the original structure still stands today, the firehouse has undergone three major renovations in 1969, 1990, and 1998.
For seventy-five years, the Purchase Fire Department has remained a fully volunteer organization that strives to provide the highest level of service to a continually supportive community.
