On Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 11:25 AM, the Purchase Fire Department was dispatched with the West Harrison Fire Department and Harrison EMS to Interstate 684 for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. Rescue 30, Engine 240, and Car 2411 responded, arriving at mile marker 2.5 on the southbound side. Units observed an SUV in the center median that had apparently rolled over multiple times after leaving the northbound lanes.

Rescue 30 coordinated with Harrison EMS to extricate the driver while Engine 240 stretched a 1 ¾" hose off the front bumper as a precaution. A crew from Engine 265 assisted units with extrication efforts and removal of debris from the roadway. The patient was removed through the front passenger side door and transported by Harrison EMS to the Westchester Medical Center. All Purchase and West Harrison units were back in service at 12:37 PM.

As a reminder to the motoring public, for the safety of our responders, we ask that all drivers abide by the New York State "Move Over Act," which requires motorists to slow down when approaching emergency scenes and move from immediately adjacent highway lanes when it is safe to do so.
