| On Sunday, September 25, 2011, seven members of the Purchase Fire Department participated in the 10th Annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run in New York City. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation supports children who have lost a parent, firefighters, and military personnel who have been seriously injured in the line of duty. It was founded in memory of the life and legacy of Stephen Siller, one of 343 members of the FDNY who answered their final call on September 11, 2001. The Tunnel to Towers Run follows the footsteps taken by Firefighter Siller, through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel to Ground Zero. It has continued to grow in popularity, with an estimated 30,000 participants this year, including many firefighters from around the world. Emerging from the nearly 2-mile tunnel was a profoundly emotional experience. West Point Cadets holding American Flags lined the left side of the street while FDNY firefighters lined the right side, bearing banners with the names and portraits of each of the 343. Making the turn onto West Street provided a magnificent view of One World Trade Center, now rising over 1,000 feet above the streets of Lower Manhattan. The Purchase Fire Department was proud to support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and plans to continue the tradition next year. Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation:
