| The Purchase Fire Department held their 2011 Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. The weather was perfect and the event was well-attended by active members of the United States Marine Corps, United States Air National Guard, and Veterans of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The Purchase Boy Scout Troop No. 1 also attended and lowered the flag to half-mast with the assistance of the Marines. Harrison Town Board members, our State Assemblyman, Robert Castelli, and visiting Chiefs from our neighboring departments were also in attendance. Scottie Mack played Amazing Grace on his bagpipes and for the first time, we enjoyed a flyover by a trainer fighter jet, timed perfectly after Samantha Straface and her mother, Debbie, beautifully sang America the Beautiful. The Purchase Fire Department would like to express their deep appreciation for all who attended, particularly the Veterans, Marines, and Air National Guard. It is you to whom we owe our deepest gratitude for giving the ultimate sacrifice and protecting our freedom. Photo Source: Zach Oliva, Harrison Patch:
