| On Sunday, October 24, 2010, members of the Purchase Fire Department took advantage of the Bus Accident Victim Extrication Training course offered by the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services. The course is designed to educate responders of the unique challenges that may be presented in a bus related emergency. Instructors put together various scenarios involving trapped victims as PFD members utilized Rescue 30 with other responders and equipment from around the county. The final exercise was a simulated bus fire, which also provided a dramatic photo opportunity.
PFD members are continuously training to keep their skills sharp. Much of this training is provided within the department and is held on a weekly basis. The Westchester County Department of Emergency Services also offers formal training courses that often focus on a specific skill or aspect of the fire service. |
