Second MCI of Week Strikes Interchange |

| On Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 1:51 PM, the Purchase and West Harrison Fire Departments were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 684 northbound just south of Exit 2. As Cars 2411, 2501, and 2412 signed on, 60 Control reported that Westchester County Police was on scene confirming the location as the Hutchinson River Parkway northbound at the split to Interstate 684. Car 2411 established command while Car 2501 assumed the operations position. Car 2412 coordinated with Harrison EMS to ascertain the patient count and severity of injuries. Engine 240, Rescue 30, Rescue 35, and Utility 25 arrived promptly after. Patient care and triaging was initiated by EMS personnel and firefighters after ten patients were identified. An additional eight ambulances were requested by Harrison EMS. As ambulances were dispatched from area communities, three of the patients were considered critical and were immediately transported to Westchester Medical Center. Once the critical patients were removed from the scene, the remaining injured were treated and transported by units as they arrived. All lanes on Interstate 684 were shut down for nearly an hour as firefighters worked closely with EMS crews to ensure proper care for each patient. All units were cleared from the incident at 3:28 PM. |
