| The Purchase Fire Department held their 2009 Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 20, 2009. The weather was perfect and the event was well-attended by active members of the United States Marine Corps, all of whom served multiple tours in Iraq, as well as veterans of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Purchase Boy Scout Troop No. 1 and the Cub Scouts also attended and lowered the flag to half-mast with the assistance of the Marines. Chiefs from neighboring fire departments, Harrison Town Board members, the Town Clerk, and the Harrison Police Chief were also in attendance.
