At 10:24 hours, the Purchase Fire Department along with Port Chester Rescue 40 & Harrison EMS were dispatched to Interstate 287 WB in the area of Interstate 684 for a truck on top of a vehicle with extrication. Units arrived on-scene to find a tractor trailer that came off Interstate 684 and landed below on Interstate 287 striking a van on the roadway. Firefighters worked alongside each other to extricate the driver of the van using numerous Hurst tools. The driver was extricated and removed and transported to a trauma center by EMS personnel. Unfortunately, there was one fatality on-scene, and the accident is being investigated by the New York State Police. Units operated for approximately 7 hours assisting numerous agencies.
