Earlier this morning, at 05:34 hours the Purchase & Port Chester Fire Departments were dispatched to a motor vehicle fire on Interstate 287. Upon arrival, members observed a fully involved vehicle on the right shoulder of the highway. Firefighters used a foam handline to bring the fire under control. At 06:28 hours, the scene was turned over to New York State Police and all units returned to service.

The Purchase Fire Department recently equipped our apparatus with HASS Alerts Safety Cloud, a collision prevention service that alerts other drivers on the road that an emergency vehicle has its lights on and is on scene. These alerts are designed to give drivers more time to move over to safely comply with New York States Move Over Law, which requires motorists to slow down and move over a lane when approaching vehicles with flashing lights. To receive these alerts, you can use Waze for free on any Apple or Android device, or through GPS systems on many newer-model vehicles. When you see our apparatus operating on the roadway, please remember to safely obey all traffic laws to ensure everyone’s safety.
