Serious MVA on Interstate 684

On Friday, May 21st, 2021 at 11:45 AM The Purchase & West Harrison Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle fire with extrication on Interstate 684 in the area of Manhattanville Road. While units were responding, 60 Control updated of a vehicle off the roadway on fire with an occupant still inside. Due to the severity of the call, Purchase Units started out a Rescue Company from the Port Chester Fire Department. Engine 240 was first to arrive and stretched 100’ of 1 ¾ hose to begin extinguishment efforts on a single vehicle into a wooded area. As the crew from Engine 240 held back impinging fire on the passenger compartment of the vehicle, firefighters from Rescue 30 began to remove a downed tree & brush in order to gain access to a trapped occupant. Mutual Aid companies provided further assistance stabilizing the vehicle and the occupant was removed. Harrison EMS provided pre-hospital care and the patient was transported to a local hospital.

Over the last week, the Purchase Fire Department has responded to over 10 motor vehicle accidents including a motor vehicle accident with extrication in Port Chester on Thursday. We urge all motorists to use caution when traveling on the roadways and obey all traffic laws.
