Just before noon on September 8th, 2016, Purchase Fire was dispatched with Harrison EMS to I-684 Southbound for an MVA. West Harrison Fire Department was also added to the assignment as part of an automatic mutual aid response plan, or dual response. The dual response zone includes the approximate 4 mile stretch of I-684 which lies in the Purchase Fire District.

Dispatchers reported that an SUV had rolled over and was down an embankment into the woods. FD units arrived and immediately began work to access the driver, who had been pinned in the vehicle. The patient succumbed to injuries sustained during the crash, and was pronounced dead on scene. See links for further information on the victim. Police were unable to immediately determine the cause of the accident.
