On May 20, 2015, the Purchase Fire Department held its annual Memorial Day Ceremony. Under unseasonably cold skies, our community once again pulled together to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country, as well as departed members of our department whose memories we cherish.

Rabbi Howard Goldsmith of Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester delivered a moving invocation, followed by an address from our Mayor, Ron Belmont. The presentation of the wreath on behalf of the veterans was gracefully conducted by Staff Sergeant Pratt of the United States Marine Corps, Technical Sergeant Griffin and Senior Airman Gonzalez of the 105th Airlift Wing of the United States Air National Guard, and veteran John Cuoco, who served and was injured in Korea at Heartbreak Ridge.

Ex-Chiefs Dante Paccica and Robert Makowski presented a wreath on behalf of the Purchase Fire Department and the roll call of deceased members was read by Ex-Chief Ronald Mignone. The flag was lowered to half staff by SSgt Pratt and Troop 1 Eagle Scout Jacob McKinsey, followed by Taps by Bill Hennenberry of the Westchester Brassmen.

The Saint Anthony of Padua Choir sang several beautiful songs, capturing the moment as if the angels were watching from above, followed by a special tribute by Scott McIver and the unique harmony of his bagpipes. The ceremony closed with a deep moment of silence punctuated by a thunderous flyover by Larry Labriola in his fighter jet.

The Purchase Fire Department thanks all who attended and participated in our ceremony for taking a moment to remember those who have served and fallen for our great nation.
