On Sunday, April 26, 2015, the Purchase Fire Department opened its doors to the community for its annual Open House. As part of a statewide recruitment campaign sponsored by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), open houses are held to recruit volunteer firefighters from local communities.

In addition to recruitment efforts, the open house is a great opportunity for residents and families to learn about their local fire department. Firefighters gave tours of the station and provided some valuable fire safety tips.

The day was a great success. Visitors and recruits enjoyed several demonstrations of fire department equipment. Barbecue and refreshments were also served.

The Purchase Fire Department is made up of a diverse group of volunteers. Many have lived their entire lives in Purchase, others were recruited from the two local colleges, and some are even from neighboring communities.
