On Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11:50 AM, the Port Chester Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Interstate 287 westbound in the area of Exit 10. Units were unable to locate the accident within their district and were returned. Before turning around at Exit 9, Engine 58 noticed traffic building and proceeded further to investigate. Engine 58 navigated through heavy congestion before encountering the scene of a single SUV rollover with one female trapped inside the car. Notification was made to 60 Control and a dual response was assigned to Purchase and West Harrison at 12:04 PM.
2411 established I-287 Command upon arrival. Engine 240 and Rescue 30 arrived shortly after to find a Jeep Grand Cherokee that rolled onto the guardrail, supported only by its passenger side front fender. Members deployed Res-Q-Jack stabilization struts to secure the vehicle prior to performing the extrication. Firefighters removed the windshield and made a large opening in the roof to allow proper patient access. The extrication was completed within 15 minutes and the patient was transported to Westchester Medical Center. All units were cleared at 12:54 PM.
