| On Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 3:36 AM, the Purchase Fire Department was dispatched to the Hutchinson River Parkway at the split to Interstate 684 for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment and possible fire. Rescue 30 and Engine 240 responded promptly and were on scene within minutes. Engine 238 also responded, providing additional personnel.
Arriving on scene, units were faced with a vehicle off the roadway with one occupant trapped and unconscious. Rescue 30 immediately began extrication efforts and Engine 240 deployed a 1 ¾" hand line off the front bumper as a precaution. No fire was visible, but smoke was emitting from the engine compartment. Engine 238 blocked the highway for safety as firefighters extricated the patient. Members also scanned the surrounding area with a thermal imaging camera to confirm that there were no additional patients that may have been ejected from the vehicle.
The patient was extricated after ten minutes of hydraulic tool operation and transported to the Westchester Medical Center by Harrison EMS. All remaining hazards were mitigated and Car 2412 placed units back in service at 4:35 AM. Westchester County Police remained on scene to conduct an accident investigation. |
