On Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 7:17 AM, the Purchase Fire Department was dispatched with West Harrison to a possible structure fire at the Pro Shop at Brae Burn Country Club. With smoke showing upon the arrival of Car 2411, a working fire assignment was transmitted. As additional units arrived, it became clear that access to the building would be complicated by extensive renovations on the grounds. A second alarm assignment was transmitted as the fire appeared to be advancing quickly, showing from the gable vent at the front of the building.
Engine 238 stretched a line to the second floor where access was made to the attic to begin fire suppression. Engine 240 arrived shortly after, laying in 500' of large diameter hose from the nearest hydrant to supply Engine 238. Members from Engine 265 and Tower Ladder 53 ventilated the structure from the roof, releasing heat and smoke from the attic to support the initial attack team.
The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team determined that faulty electrical wiring was to blame for sparking the blaze. Purchase and West Harrison firefighters were joined on scene by members of the Town of Mamaroneck, Port Chester, and Harrison Fire Departments. All units returned in service at 9:38 AM. The Purchase Fire Department thanks its mutual aid partners as well as those from Port Chester and the Village of Mamaroneck who stood by in our quarters.
